Act
II: The Lighting effect for the murder scene.
|
Maureen,
40 years old and going nowhere, is trapped by the need and emotional
blackmail of her elderly 'invalid' mother. At a local dance she
meets Pato Dooley, possibly her last chance to find romance. Her
mother tries to intervene with fatal consequences.
The whole play is based around realistic cottage features. The sink,
a working Television, kitchen range, kettles and a radio are all
integral parts of the play. The director and I decided early on,
that the set should be as small, intimate and detailed as possible.
This included rain falling as a curtain behind the door and windows.
I commented at an early meeting that "I would like this set
to look as though it smells", and it did: An ASM lit a brazier
of peat and wafted the smell round the auditorium every evening,
prior to the audience coming in! |
